Ahh, seersucker, the light, cool fabric with the funny name, as synonymous with Southern life as sweet tea and bourbon. With its origins in India in the 1600s, it was known as “shirushakar" or “milk and sugar," as the first colorway was a light tan (the color of natural sugar) and white (milk).
As a brand with southern roots, you can always find one or two (or three!) seersuckers in our line each spring. The most common colorway in America is a blue and white, though we like to mix it up and each season offer something different: pink, yellow, green, purple, brown, tone-on-tone. This season, we have this gorgeous 100% cotton true "shirushakar" tan and white, but if you look closely its bordered with a tiny dark stripe just to give it a little interest, a little something out of the ordinary. We will also have a navy pinstripe seersucker coming later in the summer. Though its often seen at the races, we feel that true seersucker season starts in July, when the heat and humidity hits, as this fabric is well-known for its coolness and breathability. Thats why our unlined, unstructured soft coat in 100% cotton seersucker is one of the best summer investments for your wardrobe, Mint Julep and veranda not included. Oh, and because it is wrinkled by nature, it is not necessary to iron the fabric so its great for any summer travel plans... Woven in Italy, Made in Portugal, Designed in Kentucky.
